Position Overview

Job description

Sequoia Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Onsite Safety Manager for a heavy civil construction project to ensure the highest level of safety and compliance. As the Safety Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all safety aspects of the project, implementing safety programs, conducting training, and ensuring adherence to OSHA regulations and company safety policies. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with OSHA regulations, industry standards, and company guidelines.

- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and assess the effectiveness of safety measures.

- Provide on-site safety leadership, guidance, and support to project teams, subcontractors, and workers.

- Conduct thorough job hazard analysis (JHA) and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.

- Coordinate and facilitate safety training programs, including orientation, toolbox talks, and specialized training sessions.

- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA standards and regulatory requirements throughout the project.

- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.

- Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, training, and documentation.

- Conduct regular safety meetings to address safety concerns, provide updates, and promote a culture of safety.

- Collaborate with project management and stakeholders to develop and maintain a safety-conscious work environment.

- Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, emerging safety trends, and regulatory changes.

- Provide safety reports, metrics, and recommendations to senior management on a regular basis.

Qualifications

- A qualified safety person must meet one of the following criteria:

(i) Bachelor’s degree in safety or related technical field with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a general industry/construction safety environment.

(ii) A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a general industry/construction safety environment and completion of the OSHA 500/501 Training Course (OSHA 510 or 511 training will not be accepted for a person serving in a site safety manager role).

(iii) CUSP with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a general industry/construction safety environment.

(iv) SMS with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a general industry/construction safety environment.

(v) CHST with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a general industry/construction
safety environment.
